Rederick Mahaba vs. James 'Idol' Martinez: One More Time in Manila

On Saturday, two of PWR's newest stars are set to collide in a rematch from PWR: Vendetta.

Mr. Sy has booked a rematch between Rederick Mahaba and James "Idol" Martinez of the Network for this Saturday at PWR Live: Manila Madness. Let's take a look at where each men is coming from heading into Saturday, as well as what key factors can play a pivotal role in this match.

Both men debuted on the November 2015 edition of PWR Live, with their first in-ring meeting happening last December in the Path of Gold Tournament at PWR: Terminus. Since then, both men have been trading barbs on social media:

The two then met again at PWR Live: Road to Vendetta last January. After Mahaba's loss to Classical Bryan Leo, the Network came out and began their product orientation. The Network immediately attacked Mahaba afterwards, but a timely dose of POWER Power Drink rejuvenated the Intimate Warrior. After disposing of Network members Bruno Bernardo and Chino Guinto, Mahaba issued a challenge to Idol for PWR: Vendetta.

Come PWR: Vendetta, both men finally came face to face in the ring. It was a match filled with distractions and run-ins, however, as Guinto and Bernardo made their presence felt at ringside. Vintendo also came out to chase off the Network, finally giving the King of Schlong Style an even playing field. But a debuting wrestler — The Machine, Mavericc Knight — took out Mahaba and allowed Idol to pick up the victory.

Thus, PWR General Manager Mr. Sy has given both men another chance to settle their differences in the ring. There were mixed reactions from both men after the announcement. Mahaba is looking forward to another #FirstTime with Idol, while the Network's leader is not at all thrilled at the idea of facing Mahaba once again.

    1. Downlines and Distractions

It is well-known that there is strength in numbers, and one does not need to look beyond the Network to find an example. Flanking Idol are two of his most successful business partners, "Golden Boy" Chino Guinto and the Big Bank, Bruno Bernardo. That's not counting the millions (and millions) of downlines ready to help Idol pick up another victory, as we saw when Idol called on their help in the Path of Gold Tournament. And if the Machine once again makes his presence felt, it might just be a rough night for Rederick Mahaba.

On the other hand, not everyone is a downline, and there are some who want to challenge the vast pyramid. Vintendo is not booked for a match this Saturday, and he might be lurking around to serve as an equalizer against the Network.

    2. #FirstTime

Despite showing in-ring skill and an ability to connect with fans, Mahaba has yet to taste victory in a PWR ring. He's experienced other kinds of victories, but not the kind where you have your hand raised after a match. The good news here is that he is facing an opponent he is all too familiar with, having just recently squared off against Idol at PWR: Vendetta. That familiarity should help him manuever another match with Idol. If the downlines don't come out to play, then expect the King of Schlong Style to navigate towards his first W. That's a big if, though, but if it stays a one-on-one affair, Mahaba has a great shot at stopping his losing streak.

What do you think, Henrinites? Will Rederick Mahaba even the score against Idol? Or will the Network once again enjoy prosperity and success? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!

PWR Live: Manila Madness will be on March 5, Saturday, at the Tanduay Covered Courts, Legarda Street, Manila. Tickets are priced at Php 350 and are once again available at The Appraisery. Further announcements regarding the show can be found on the Philippine Wrestling Revolution's Facebook page.
