The Grapevine (1/7/16): The Storm Front

Good morning everyone, and welcome to the Grapevine! This is our daily post rounding up all the interesting rumors from the wild, wild world of pro wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

As we wait for more updates on the New Japan siege, let's turn our attention to another promotion that made waves this week:

    • James Storm went back to TNA because they offered more money. Storm returned on Impact Wrestling's live debut on Pop TV this Tuesday, U.S. time. It turns out that WWE, whom he was never signed to at all, was reportedly only willing to offer Storm a contract worth less than $100,000 a year. TNA's offer, however, was good for two years, worth 2.5 times that, would net him a portion of merchandise sales for the entire duration, and would give him guaranteed money the whole time, even if TNA were to fold between now and then. The real cherry on top of the sundae is that both Storm and WWE left their doors open for business in the future. (Source: Pro Wrestling Sheet)

We say: This info is a little dubious considering that none of the usual credible (as credible can be) reporters are attached to it, but we're willing to give this the benefit of the doubt if it means TNA is finally treating their most valuable talents right. It just feels like a lot of the sketchy contracts that were prevalent in both WWE and WCW during the Monday Night Wars, with both promotions promising money they may or may not have. Let's hope TNA can really put their money where their mouth is.

    • Speaking of TNA, the original plans for the World Title Series was supposed to be Lashley defeating Matt Hardy in the finals to win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. No word yet on the reason why they decided to go with EC3 again instead. (Source: WrestlingInc)

We say: We would really love to know, because we're still not sure why a four-month long tournament ended up in the exact same situation we had before Bound for Glory happened.

    • Konnor is out with a jaw injury. It looks like a dislocated jaw, probably happened during the Ascension's Superstars match against Goldust and R-Truth. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Sucks to see someone get injured doing so relatively little. That's the WWE schedule for you. Get well soon, Konnor.

What do you think? Does James Storm deserve that deal? Should EC3 have won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship? Let us know what you think in the comments!
