The Grapevine (11/11/15): Finn Balór Getting Called Up, John Cena Returning Early, Big Show Injury Scare?

Good morning, everyone! Welcome to the Grapevine, where we round up the (technically unconfirmed) rumors from the wild world of pro wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

The WWE main roster is undergoing a shake-up, with multiple top stars on the shelf, and we have some rumors on how the company will be dealing with it.

    • John Cena will not be cutting his VL short. There's been speculation floating around that in the wake of Seth Rollins' devastating knee injury that will have him sidelined for up to nine months, the WWE would be pushing the panic button and calling the Doctor of Thuganomics back early from his personal leave. A backstage source at WWE however claims this is not the case, and Cena will likely be out as planned until the December 26th live event at Madison Square Garden, where he's announced to face Alberto Del Rio. We say: Sorry, Darren Young, but Cena is the real Mr. No Days Off, and he deserves this break to rest some nagging nicks and dings he's accumulated in his stellar 2015. Keeping Cena out is the best thing the WWE can do for the long term, if only to force them to commit to building up the next level of talent. Truth be told, they haven't developed a true crossover breakout star this year apart from Seth Rollins, whose exposure to the Jon Stewart crowd gives him some recognizability beyond the core wrestling audience. The WWE is at their best when their backs are against the wall, and with Cena, Daniel Bryan, Rollins, and Randy Orton out, the pressure is on to commit to the next big star.

    • Is Finn Balór getting called up soon? The current NXT Champion is scheduled to be present at several RAW and SmackDown tapings in the weeks after Survivor Series, leading to speculation that he'll be promoted to the main roster in the very near future. (Source: Daily Wrestling News)

We say: Finn Balór is definitely ready, ring-wise, but does he have the total package to succeed on the big stage? Cool entrance, a killer look, and ring polish aside, the self-professed introvert Balór is notoriously weak on the mic, where he absolutely needs to shine in the sports entertainment world of main rosterdom, which is worlds apart from the wrestling-friendly NXT audience. And is the WWE ready to gut NXT again? With Sami Zayn still out and Kevin Owens rocking on the main show, we don't have many clear young centerpieces in the promotion, unless we trust in Apollo Crews, Samoa Joe, and the rest of the crew to tear things up even more. Balór is a fine talent in a world without Cena and Rollins, but this is a definite sink-or-swim situation for him.

    • A Big Show injury scare? Some reports coming out of the WWE's live event at Belfast, Northern Ireland initially indicated that Show was potentially hurt after taking a Kane chokeslam through a table, with the referee immediately calling for medical attention. It turns out this was part of the sell job, as after the match, Big Show got back onto his feet, only to collapse with a Flair Flop. Two referees supposedly went to check on him, only for one of them to cover him for a comedy pin while the other counted a fake three-count. (Source: Wrestling Inc.)

We say: Nothing to see here, folks. In this day and age of Internet reporting and dirtsheet scoops, every news article needs to be taken with a massive grain of salt. Having said that, it would still suck for a man the size of the Big Show to take a table bump. Props to him for going for it, and even more props for his comedic sense and timing.

What do you think of today's state of the WWE, folks? Do they need to cut John Cena's vacation short, or is the roster in good shape without him? Do you think Finn Balór deserves a promotion, and where would it leave NXT? Let us know your thoughts below.
